NZSHCD - New Zealand Society of Hospital and Community Dentistry

Membership/How to Join

Membership to the New Zealand Society of Hospital and Community Dentistry falls into one of the following three categories.

Full Membership

Any New Zealand registered dental practitioner that is employed either full time or part time, or who attends on a fee for service basis is eligible for full membership of the association.

Associate Membership

Associate membership is offered to any registered dental practitioner who holds a hospital appointment as a dental officer, but who is not employed by a DHB.

Associate membership is also extended to any registered dental practitioner who is enrolled in postgraduate programmes at the School of Dentistry.

Please note, associate members will be required to pay 50% of the full membership subscription and will not be able to exercise voting rights at any meetings of the association.

Honorary Life Membership

Honorary life members are elected at the Annual General Meeting in recognition of outstanding service to either the association, or the disciplines of Hospital or Community Dentistry. Honorary life members pay no subscription, but have full membership rights. Nominations will be accepted at the Annual General Meeting.

Benefits of Membership

Benefits of becoming a member of the New Zealand Society of Hospital and Community Dentistry include:

  • A reduced fee to the NZSHCD annual conference.
  • Each NZSHCD conference is registered as Continuing Professional Development (CPD) and so attendance goes towards your CPD total with the Dental Council of New Zealand (DCNZ).
  • Voting rights at the NZSHCD Annual General Meetings.

Termination of Membership

Termination of membership to the New Zealand Society of Hospital and Community Dentistry:

  • Membership of the association will automatically cease with the cessation of employment of a member by any District Health Board or in the case of an associate member when they relinquish their appointment with a District Health Board with the exception of honorary members.
  • Any member may resign from the association by notifying the Secretary in writing. Any member resigning will be held liable for any subscription or other dues which are outstanding at the time.
  • If any member is found by the executive to be guilty of conduct contrary to the objects and interests of the association, membership may be suspended or terminated. Such a member shall have the right to appear before the executive to justify continued membership of the association and further he or she may appeal against the executives’ decision before any general or special meeting of the association.
  • If any member fails to pay a subscription within six months after the due date, the executive committee may by resolution remove such member’s name from the list of members, and such member shall cease to be a member of the association provided always that the executive may reinstate any such member if he/she justify to its satisfaction the delay in paying the subscription.
