Membership to the New Zealand Society of Hospital and Community Dentistry falls into one of the following four categories.

Senior Membership

Membership is open to any registered dental practitioner with an interest in public health dentistry (NZ registered dental practitioners also need to be members of the NZ Dental Association as the society is affiliated to the NZDA).

Senior membership is for those clinicians who are more than 5 years post-graduation.

Junior Membership

Membership is open to any registered dental practitioner with an interest in public health dentistry (NZ registered dental practitioners also need to be members of the NZ Dental Association as the society is affiliated to the NZDA).

Junior membership is for those clinicians who are less than 5 years post-graduation and/or are post graduate students.

Honorary Life Membership

Honorary life members are elected at the Annual General Meeting in recognition of outstanding service to either the association, or the disciplines of Hospital or Community Dentistry.

Honorary life members pay no subscription, but have full membership rights. Nominations will be accepted at the Annual General Meeting.

Life Membership

A Life Member is a person honoured for highly valued services to the Society, elected as a Life member by resolution at an AGM.

Price

  • Full membership: $50/year
  • Associate membership: $20/year

Benefits of Membership

Benefits of becoming a member of the New Zealand Society of Hospital and Community Dentistry include:

  • Each NZSHCD conference is registered as Continuing Professional Development (CPD) and so attendance goes towards your CPD total with the Dental Council of New Zealand (DCNZ).
  • Voting rights at the NZSHCD Annual General Meetings (full membership only).

Termination of Membership

Termination of membership to the New Zealand Society of Hospital and Community Dentistry:

  • Membership of the association will automatically cease with the cessation of employment of a member by any District Health Board or in the case of an associate member when they relinquish their appointment with a District Health Board with the exception of honorary members.
  • Any member may resign from the association by notifying the Secretary in writing. Any member resigning will be held liable for any subscription or other dues which are outstanding at the time.
  • If any member is found by the executive to be guilty of conduct contrary to the objects and interests of the association, membership may be suspended or terminated. Such a member shall have the right to appear before the executive to justify continued membership of the association and further he or she may appeal against the executives’ decision before any general or special meeting of the association.
  • If any member fails to pay a subscription within six months after the due date, the executive committee may by resolution remove such member’s name from the list of members, and such member shall cease to be a member of the association provided always that the executive may reinstate any such member if he/she justify to its satisfaction the delay in paying the subscription.
